Telling the story of Lincolnshire's Iron Age, Roman and Medieval Heritage
What’s Happening In 2025?
This year we are focusing on a number of projects and activities.
1) We commissioned a study of pottery sherds found when the Norton Disney Roman villa was excavated in 1934 and 1935. These sherds have lain undisturbed since then in boxes at Newark Museum for 90 years. This report is now available to read from our website. (Click on archaeological reports). It offers new insights into the villa, particularly the period of occupation now potentially lasting until 5th Century.
2) This spring we are surveying areas of Norton Disney in preparation for our summer excavation. More to be revealed in due course.
3) The first two weeks of June 2025 our group will be excavating with our team of volunteers.Â
4) Our site open day will be Saturday 14th June 10am to 2pm.
6) On Sunday 29th June another archaeology walk will take place in Norton Disney village at 2pm. Click here to book a place
7) The Norton Disney dodecahedron is currently on display at the Natioanl Civil War Centre, Newark Museum. It will subsequently go on display at the Lakeside Arts Centre, University of Nottingham from 26th July until 18th January 2026. The exhibition is entitled: “The Norton Disney Dodecahedron, It’s discovery and excavations”. More details hereÂ
8) Time Team this spring will be releasing on YouTube episodes of the Norton Disney excavation filmed in September 2024.
